Jordan Cunliffe

Scriptwriter Jimmy McGovern to base drama on Jordan's case

"There are young men inside who should not be inside and are because of this law, joint enterprise,” McGovern told BBC Radio Merseyside.
“The biggest case is Jordan Cunliffe. “I know a lot about that case and that boy is innocent.”

Joint enterprise law questioned by mother of teen convict - important article on this case in the Guardian, by Eric Allison

Jordan Cunliffe is one of the men convicted of murdering Garry Newlove in Warrington. Mr Newlove was killed by a single kick to his neck, which was fatal because he had a surgical implant there.

Jordan Cunliffe did not harm Mr Newlove himself, but was convicted because he was said to be engaged in a joint enterprise with the man who did kick him. However, Jordan is blind and could not have known what was happening. Jordan did not know that anyone he was with might be violent.

Jordan's mother, Janet, spoke at a meeting to alert MPs to the dangers of the joint enterprise law at the House of Commons on 23 March 2010. See London Against Injustice for details.
